Expansion proposal of the Hong Kong Auskick adopted for season 2012.

HKJAFL adopted proposal.doc

At a meeting of the Hong Kong Auskick, the proposal to expand the Auskick the 3 venues and the formation of the Hong Kong Junior Australian Football League was adopted and will be in place for season 2012.

Any junior sporting progam and competition needs the help from the parents and participants to succeed. Any feedback greatly appreciated.

New Initiatives to be adopted

Expansion

Formation of the Hong Kong Junior Australian Football League.

Evolving out of the Hong Kong Auskick program.

All players must be registered Auskick players for equipment and insurance purposes.

Adopted Proposal: Expand the current Hong Kong Auskick program to more venues at varied times of the week to allow for more children and their parents to access the Auskick program. From this expansion create an underage AFL competition between the venues.

Rationale: Not many places in Australia would parents be expected to travel over 40 minutes to attend an Auskick session which is what all the kids from Lantau Island and the far reaches of Hong Kong Island and the New Territories have to do to keep involved in Auskick. Numbers indicate that it would be a viable and probably necessary to allow for the expansion of Auskick. Viable in terms of participant numbers but also now for the first time also viable in terms of Level One Junior AFL qualified and motivated coaches.

The raw numbers:

  • 108 players registered at Hong Kong Auskick with numbers per session between 25 and 85.
  • 75 students participated in an AFL ECA at the AISHK in terms 2 and 3 with only 27 of them being registered Auskickers.
  • 35 players involved in some capacity in an AFL program in Discovery Bay with only 12 registered Auskickers.

Not counting the handful of extra Pokfulam Vikings kids who attended the session at HKFC Happy Valley and the 18 extra girls who attended the “Bring your sister day” at Kings Park, there were 170+ kids that participated in an AFL program of some sort in Hong Kong in 2011. More than enough for 3-4 teams of 10-15 players in 3 age groups.

The three venues and team names and colours for 2012 will be:

  • Discovery Bay, Lantau Island. Play in the HKJAFL as Lantau Lizards. Light Blue Jumper with a Black Lizard logo
  • Hong Kong Football Club, Happy Valley, Hong Kong Island. PLay in HKJAFL as Hong Kong Typhoons. Navy Blue Jumper with a White Logo
  • Kings Park, Ho Man Tin, Kowloon. Play in HKJAFL as Kowloon Cobras. White Jumper with a Red Logo

Coaching Clinics

The Hong Kong Auskick will be conducting a Level One Junior AFL Coaching course for each venue in 2012 to upskill any helper dads who wish to be more involved and who may wish to coach any of the sides in the HKJAFL.

Associations and game opportunities

There will be an even closer association with the Hong Kong Dragons Football Club (Hong Kong’s senior AFL side) who will be providing us with players to assist with coaching and umpiring of the HKJAFL games. As part of this association the Auskick will be invited to run a session and play games on the Grand Final day of the South China Australian Football League at Kai Tak in August with young players from Macau and Guangzhou traveling to Hong Kong to join us in the days activities.

Communication

We would encourage everyone to check our website regularly for the latest updates and we will be encouraging the kids to use it as well. As part of Darren's role he will be sourcing football related articles (see below and at the bottom of the Home page) from many places in the world of football and placing links on the Hong Kong Auskick website.

We will be taking photographs throughout the season and uploading to the website so please let us know if you would not like your child to be photographed.

As the summer approaches we will no doubt be affected by thunderstorms.  Our policy this year remains the same however we have been able to set up a mass text system. If Auskick is cancelled you will be notified by no later than 0730 that morning. In addition we will also update the website by no later than 0730.
